Principles

My approach to product design

Good product design sits at the intersection of user needs, business goals, and technical realities. It’s a process of understanding the problem, defining the right outcome, and making thoughtful choices along the way.

These four principles shape my approach to product design, from framing the problem to making the decisions that bring a solution to life.

01

Design starts with observation

Good design starts with paying attention. Understanding how people work, where they struggle, and what shapes their decisions uncovers the problems worth solving and guides the direction of the design.

02

Output follows outcome

Design artifacts aren’t the measure of success. Starting with the outcome for users, the product, and the business, keeps the work focused on creating meaningful impact, not simply producing deliverables.

03

Strategically oriented, creatively led

Strategy provides direction; creativity opens possibilities. Bringing both together connects user needs with product and business goals, turning complex problems into thoughtful, practical solutions.

04

Make trade-offs, not compromises

Good design requires choices. Balancing user needs, business value, technical constraints, and delivery realities means knowing what to protect, what to change, and where to make deliberate trade-offs.
